How to Buy a Junior Cocktail Dress For Your Daughter

On a spring dance, a dressy birthday party or a family member's wedding, your daughter may require a cocktail dress to suit the occasion. You should keep it in mind that not all the cocktail dresses are suitable. After all, she is still very young and lack of enough experience. So, use the following suggestions to find a juniors style that's fashionable, comfortable and appropriate.

Instructions
  1. Find a style to suit the occasion. Although most cocktail dresses fall to the knee or just above it, the sleeves and backs vary considerably. Steer clear of halter top straps, plunging necklines or dresses with open backs unless your daughter is attending an informal event like a garden party or dance where a strict dress code isn't in effect.

  2. Choose a material and design that coordinates with the season. Deep, rich colors and swing velvets are lovely for winter and fall events, for example, while cotton and chiffon dresses in pastels or floral patterns are ideal for spring parties and dances.

  3. Consider styles that will flatter your daughter's body type. For example, if she's got a pear-shaped figure, look for a dress with a full skirt and a fitted top. Accentuate a slim body with a wrap dress or one with a wide belt. You can also try an empire waist to complement an apple-shaped figure.

  4. Buy a dress online once you know the exact style, color and size you're looking for. You may be able to find a great dress in a brick-and-mortar store, then buy it at a lower price online, for example. Ensure the shop has a lenient return policy, however, in case the dress doesn't fit as expected. Also use the pictures on shop websites to get style ideas for coordinated hair, shoes and accessories.
